β€œSo you’re an English Teacher? A Programmer?
What do you DO, after all?”

Every time I hear this question, a Panda dies. And I hear it extremely, extremely often.

(don’t worry dear. We have an article for that now)

Our society works by labeling people into certain roles.
A career they have worked towards during their entire adult lives.

That’s how capitalism β€œworks”: by fomenting specialization. If you’re good at something, you should do that to maximize value produced, so says the logic. More money in your pocket.

Nope, you idiot.
More money in your bosses’ pocket.

Is this the place to start talking about politics? Maybe in another article. My Creative Writing Mentor tells me to β€œstick to the topic”. It would also abominate the usage of β€œyou idiot”. Don’t offend people because they go away, so the saying goes.

I am a Mark Manson disciple, so I know that is definitely false.

The more competent you get at something, the more your skills broaden. This is not the 18th century – we are doing Intellectual work, not manual labor.

By we, I mean the most fortunate of us. Some are indeed still doing manual labor.

The programmer that becomes good at dealing with people and goes to a Management position. The artist that starts editing Tiktok videos to showcase his oeuvre and becomes a video-editing expert. Sounds familiar, for some reason.

People that β€œCollect Professions and Abilities” end up working for themselves, running business, creating disruptive projects, or playing chess during their regular jobs while they save enough money to retire.

Again, for some reason, sounds incredibly familiar.

THE POINT, CÉSAR

This is everything I remember I am able to do, + my current level of performance based in honest self-evaluation.

Unfortunately, good memory is rarely in the list.
